Background and more detail

Requirements

  • Qatar ID (QID)
  • Passport with residence visa
  • A salary certificate from your employer
  • A local phone number

Some banks open a basic account while your QID is being processed, but cards and transfers abroad usually wait for it.

Salary transfer

Employers must pay salaries through the Wage Protection System, so your first account is usually at the bank your employer uses. Loans and credit cards often require salary transfer to the lending bank.

Payments

Instant transfers between local banks run through the central bank's Fawran service. Contactless cards and mobile wallets are accepted almost everywhere.

Leaving Qatar

Settle loans and credit cards before you cancel your residence. Banks can file travel bans for unpaid debt.
