Untick what doesn't apply to you. These are rough figures and fees change often, so check with the authority.
Watch out

No, some family areas restrict single-occupancy rentals.

Background and more detail
Leases
Leases are usually for one year with monthly rent. Landlords normally ask for one month's rent as a deposit, and agents charge a fee, often half a month's rent.
Where expats live
- Salmiya: seafront, busy, many apartments and shops
- Salwa, Mangaf, Mahboula: popular with families, near many schools
- Kuwait City and Sharq: close to offices
- Fahaheel: south, near the oil sector employers
Utilities
Electricity and water are subsidised and billed by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy. In many buildings they are included in rent.
Civil ID and address
Your address is registered with the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI) and printed on your civil ID. Update it when you move, since an outdated address can delay government services.
Tips
- Ask whether the flat has central or split air conditioning
- Check the building's watchman and maintenance arrangements
- Keep copies of all rent receipts
