Background and more detail
Article 18
Private-sector employees hold an Article 18 residence. The employer applies to the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) for your work permit and then to the Ministry of Interior for your entry visa.
Degree attestation and equivalency
Kuwait is strict on documents. Degrees must be attested in your home country, by the Kuwaiti embassy and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait. Some professions, including teaching and engineering, also require equivalency or professional verification.
Civil ID
The Civil ID, issued by PACI, is required for almost everything. The Sahel and Kuwait Mobile ID apps hold a digital version accepted by most banks and government offices.
Family visas
Sponsoring a spouse and children depends on your salary and job title. The threshold has changed several times in recent years, so check the current rule with the Ministry of Interior before planning a move.
Leaving and debts
Unpaid loans, phone bills or fines can result in a travel ban. Settle everything and get clearance before your final departure.
Pay and tax
There is no personal income tax. Teaching and healthcare contracts often include accommodation and an annual flight.
